THE DA VINCI CODE
I went to a bookstore a few days ago to stock up on summer novels, and lo and behold, everywhere I looked in the giant bookstore space, I saw the bold banner, “Da Vinci Code” this . . . “Da Vinci Code” that! I mean, what a sales coup for Dan Brown and Company! What a sales phenomena for all who are intrigued by the fiction piece, and buy into the Da Vinci Code book as a reality.
I read The Da Vinci Code novel when it first came out. It was a great work of intrigue and fiction, playing on the mystery of the Catholic Church, and laying down a fable with good writing attached.
But to state that Jesus Christ was married and fathered children is so far-fetched; it’s almost laughable to read such nonsense. I say almost, as some people actually believe Jesus was married and had children with Mary Magdalene. Then to suggest many secret societies were established and a set of codes enacted to protect these false beliefs, wellll . . . Dan Brown and publishers have made a lot of money convincing the public to buy into his controversial fiction piece as potential reality. The book would have been more realistic if Dan Brown had tried to convince us that Jesus had brothers and sisters. I believe he did. But married and establishing a lineage of children? No!
Why do I believe it’s false? Because Mary Magdalene was one of many women who followed Jesus and the twelve disciples, as Jesus preached and taught a new and enlightened message about the loving ministry of God . . . the Father.
Mary was a believer and follower of Jesus Christ and his wondrous messages of revealing love and truth. She loved him with all her heart and soul, and fully believed in his earthly mission. She had faith he was the Son of God and his teaching resounded within her mind as the truth. It was Mary Magdalene who discovered Jesus’ body was missing, with only the burial cloths left upon his resting place within the rocky tomb. She was the first person Christ spoke to upon his resurrection after she had fled the tomb and sat crying in distress. She was reassured by his spiritual presence, and recognized his voice when he spoke her name. He gave Mary specific messages to impart to the disciples who remained in the area following his death upon the cross. He appeared to her a second time later in the day, when she returned to the empty tomb to seek peace and solace.
I believe Jesus made many spiritual appearances after his resurrection. Many of his appearances weren’t recorded in books. I believe those faithful spirit-filled men and women . . . went forth with his messages of a glorious, loving, and forgiving God, and the message of a spiritual peace and the potential of salvation for all. Their message eventually traveled the globe and was delivered to the entire world, spreading a hopeful Gospel of Jesus Christ . . . to all of mankind. Christ’s great teaching mission on earth is recorded in the Bible and other great spiritual books of today, and offer us each the potential for forgiveness, salvation, redemption and a greater service to God and humanity. “The Fatherhood of God . . . and the Brotherhood of all Mankind.”
