Dying To Live- (Poem) J. Bartlett
Dying To Live
She’s Dying To Live to be an ancient season
Like the mighty etchings carved before her birth
Layers and layers of passing seasons and stories
With their solid roots attached to the earth
Giant limbs reaching out for her nourishment
Sunshine and water admixed with her tears
Adapting and growing to the world around her
Year after year, after . . . precious year
Then comes a blight she cannot process
A cellular disease growing deep within her soul
It encroaches with abandon and engulfs her
Dispelling the essence of her energy and hope
She fights against the intrusion with fortitude
Born from the womb of those who came before her
And with the seeds of a new beginning upon her
She offers herself to the forest of the Gods
