GO . . . DIXIE CHICKS
Let me say upfront that I love the Dixie Chicks and their music. But, I love their independence and right to speak out against injustice even more. I’m not much of a buyer of musical CDs, but I’m going to buy their new musical release, “Not Ready To Make Nice”, when it hits the stores. The Chicks stuck to their principles as far as making a political stand is concerned, and they ate the monetary bullet because of it. If I can contribute twenty bucks and contribute some small measure of support for them, I’m going to do it. To refresh your memories, the lead singer . . . “Dixie Chick” Natalie Maines was quoted in London a few years back, as saying that she was against President Bush’s stand on the war in Iraq and she was ashamed to say she was from the same state as he was.
The cowardly country music business in Nashville and the conservative right newspapers and radio stations, banned their music and blacklisted the Chicks for speaking their minds. Of course, they spoke these little “truths” before it was popular to speak the obvious.
Since the gal singers were blacklisted, a majority of free thinkers have come around and now agree with these three gal-pals. Personally, I believe a lot of us believed the Dixie Chicks statements were minor infractions when they were quoted in the news. I had said much-much worse!
Jump ahead a few years, and the deceptions and the lies of the present administration are much deeper than even the “Chicks” could imagine them to be at the time they made their statement. Lets face it! The present administration took us into war with their lies and deceptions, and have continued to go beyond the normal scope of governmental boundaries with their homeland invasions and constant disruptions of our civil rights and of our human expectations and faith in freedom and democracy.
If the “Chicks” aren’t ready “To Make Nice” and begin kissing the government and far-right’s ass, neither should the rest of the world who believe we’ve been handed a crock of shameless crap from the present leaders in the White House!
I look forward to the adventure of buying and listening to the Dixie Chicks new CD . . . I’m anxious to listen to their opinions and support them in their new venture. I’m excited to hear how much they’ve changed and grown since their original “speaking the truth” public message. If ever a group deserved a huge break and a hit for taking a stand against the thoughtless and opinionated stupidity of the far-right, it’s the Dixie Chicks! Please buy their new CD and take a stand against the war in Iraq, and please take a stand every day in your personal life for the inherent rights of all people to express their opinions without prejudice and personal/financial injury.
