TODAY IS MY BIRTH-DAY
Today is my birth-day. I was born in 1947, so you can do the math. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve lost the fascination for birthday celebrations. Not because the candles are growing in numbers, but because every single day has become a celebration for me. As I near the age of sixty, I see aging as a cause for celebration and the appreciation of the gift of life. The world we inhabit has all the precious commodities and wonders we could ever ask for, and all the right people to foster and love.
To do great things with your life, we must first realize that life is a precious gift. We fight sooo hard to live, from the very beginning of that small spark called “life”. We battle towards the light, called “living”, and then we are born into the brightest of lights at our births. From that very second . . . when we take our first breath, and achieve the great goal of our “birthright”, it becomes up to us to establish our greatness and embrace our birthdays. It becomes our goal to live within the boundaries we fought so hard to achieve before we were born. All we can ask of ourselves or anyone else is to be as great and as good as we possibly can be. To continue to seek the light beyond our Birth-Days. To actualize our given potentials within our genetic pool, our environments, and our intelligences. If we can live up to our human potentials, we have achieved greatness on our Birth-Days.
When I was a little girl, all I wanted to do is become a teenager. Then twenty-one, then the next step was twenty-five. Twenty-five is about the age I ended my quest to be older than I was, and I began to celebrate the age that I was each day. Looking back at the years, I see a pattern of growth and understanding. My mother’s advice and love became clearer as I aged, and my grandmother’s sage wisdom that she imparted to me as a child, became more important and profound. Sometime in the various stages of age, I found my own vision for living, which I happily impart to all our offspring and grandchildren who care to listen. Someday, they’ll find I had some great stuff to share with them, and they’ll find their own path to understanding their role within the life patterns.
I believe it’s really important to celebrate a healthy Birth-Day, and an awesome Death-Day. I have no problem with moving on to another university on my Death-Day, as I know there’s more beyond this planet than just the short time from Birth-Day to Death-Day. Both should be a major celebration, then every ten years or so, (as we age upward) we should celebrate with a candle of light to represent our continued growth as human beings and as children of God.
I believe we know within our souls when we’ve made a transition of wisdom and grown in understanding . . . of ourselves, others, and of the radiant consciousness and light of God. I’ve always recognized when I’ve made a step toward the spiritual consciousness of the universe and of the space I inhabit. If this all sounds philosophical, it is! If it sounds spiritual, it is! If it sounds like it’s my Birth-Day, it is!
Happy Birth-Day to you all.
