Terrible Twos – Shih Tzus (Poem)
Terrible Twos – Shih Tzus
There’s two of them that I sneak a peak at
Little faces staring down anxiously at me
Pawing my arms and smooching my face
Black eyes dancing so hopefully . . .
I try and pretend that I’m still sound asleep
I lay quiet and still as I can
They always win and I open my eyes
Chaos erupts in our mornings again
Wonder and excitement fills furry faces
As they wiggle, waggle, swoon and sway
‘She’s awake, she’s up, let’s go – let’s go
There’s so much life to be lived today’
I drag out of bed and stumble to the bath
Eight tangled feet running circles round me
Away to the kitchen and a jar filled with treats
And outside is green grass and small trees
My two furry friends greet every day the same
Eager to live in this moment called time
They ask nothing of me but heartfelt love
And they give back a zillion to mine
